California Could Controls Your Car’s Speed

California may soon require speed governors that would limit vehicles from accelerating 10 miles per hour faster than the posted speed limit.

A bill by State Sen. Scott Wiener, circulating through the state legislature would require such a device to be installed on all new vehicles. For example, a car could not go faster than 80 on a 70-mile-per-hour highway.

The devices use GPS technology or cameras to cap vehicle speeds based on where the car is driving. The only exemption being for emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks.

The bill is currently in committee.
