Oakland Police Department to Use Social Media to Combat Car Crime

Oakland police want you to slide into their DMs to stop auto burglaries. Police announced they are setting up social media accounts this weekend on X and Instagram.

If people see a car burglary, they’re asking people to post that information on @OaklandAutoBurg and that information is supposed to go out to OPD officers.

If the program works, officials say it may continue past the weekend.

The latest numbers show auto burglaries are up 36% from 2022 with more than 11,000 this year alone.
