A Navy sailor from the Los Angeles area is in federal custody, accused of taking bribes and sharing sensitive military information with China.
Petty Officer Wenheng Zhao of Monterey Park was working at Naval Base Ventura County. Investigators believe he was communicating and sharing defense secrets with a Chinese intelligence officer. Zhao will be arraigned in Downtown Los Angeles.
Another sailor who is based in San Diego was arrested on similar charges but it is unclear if the two cases are related.
