You could soon receive automated tickets from speed cameras if a new bill passes. The automated speed enforcement program would begin a five-year trial program in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Los Angeles, Glendale, and Long Beach.
Those going more than 11-miles over the speed limit would automatically first get a warning and then a ticket any time after that.
Privacy concerns surrounding the information and video captured by the cameras have been raised as objections to the legislation. Despite revisions aimed at addressing privacy concerns, 12 organizations oppose the law, citing data vulnerability.
Recent adjustments to the bill mandate the destruction of documents after three days if no citation is issued, and after one year if a citation is issued. The bill emphasizes that the cameras will not utilize facial recognition technology and will only measure speed.
