Group Demands BART Install Gates Faster

There’s a new push for BART to install security gates faster. Bay Area business leaders are demanding the 2026 timeline be moved up, calling it urgent.

The group conducted a survey in May showing the main reason riders are staying away is due to safety concerns.

Bay Area Council Group spokesperson Rufus Jeffries told Kron 4 , “We believe there is an urgency and BART needs to do whatever it can to accelerate the project and help keep unwanted elements out.”

BART plans to install gates at all 50 train stations, saying some may be ready sooner.  For instance, the West Oakland station will have gates by the end of the year.
