San Jose City Workers Ready to Strike If No Contract Agreement

By

/

More than four thousand San Jose workers are on the verge of a strike. They’re ready to walk out if no contract agreement is reached with the city by August 8th.

They want a seven-percent raise this year, six-percent next year, and then five-percent.  They’re also asking for eight weeks of family leave.

The mayor believes the counteroffer is reasonable, saying it doesn’t do any good to give high wages if they have to cut services.

It has been almost two decades since San Jose has seen a strike by city employees.
