Rene Colorado, the executive director of the Tenderloin Merchants and Property Owners Association, has announced his intention to run for District 5 Supervisor. His goal is to represent the embattled Tenderloin neighborhood on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Colorado took on the executive director role in 2019 and aims to increase accountability for city-funded nonprofits, foster relationships between police and social service workers, and secure more funding for ambassador programs.

He will likely face incumbent supervisor Dean Preston, who became responsible for the Tenderloin after a charged redistricting process in April of 2022. Preston, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and vocal critic of law enforcement, advocates for the establishment of safe-consumption sites.

Neither Colorado nor Preston have officially filed their candidacy paperwork as the election is scheduled for November 2024.
