San Francisco city crews have been installing a controversial protected bike lane on Valencia Street in the Mission District for the past few weeks.

According to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), there have already been a couple of minor crashes, despite some sections of the street still being under construction.

The project, located between 18th and 19th streets, includes little bumpers on the pavement to protect bicyclists from vehicle traffic on one of the busiest streets in the Mission.

The plan includes the elimination of 70 parking spaces over the eight-block stretch in favor of loading zones.

The SFMTA reported two bicycle collisions on the mostly completed stretches.

A spokesperson for the SFMTA mentioned that the full center bike lane project is expected to be completed in another four to five weeks.
