Waymo Car Stops in Middle of San Francisco Street, Resparks Driverless Vehicle Debate

A new video from this past weekend’s Pride Parade in San Francisco is offering new fuel for a debate about robotaxis in the city.

A Waymo driverless car appears to get confused by road closures for the parade and simply stops in the middle of a street.

Last week, the San Francisco Fire Department chief said driverless cars have been getting in the way of first responders. Meanwhile, the California Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to consider a proposal this week to allow driverless cars to operate on San Francisco streets 24 hours a day.

Jamie Court, president of Consumer Watchdog, says companies pushing driverless vehicles have too much freedom right now.
