SF Prosecutors Drop Charges Against Homeless Man Who Beat Ex-Fire Commissioner

A homeless man accused of viciously assaulting San Francisco’s former fire commissioner escaped charges despite being caught on video practicing swings with a crowbar moments before the attack.

Shockingly, San Francisco prosecutors determined that the attacker, Garrett Doty, was merely acting in “self-defense” because ex-commissioner Don Carmignani sprayed the homeless man with pepper spray.

Carmignani was assaulted by the homeless man on April 5th after he asked him and his two pals to move their encampment away from his mother’s home in the Marina District.

Video of the attack shows Doty grabbing the metal rod from a trash can and practicing swings right in front of the victim’s mother’s house. Despite evidence of the attacker’s aggressive behavior, including blocking the victim’s driveway with two other transients, the case was ultimately dropped.

Speaking to CBS News, Carmignani said: “It’s sad. My city is in chaos. They’re driving out all the locals and everyone that pays taxes.”
