According to a report, Google has paused construction of a massive campus in the Silicon Valley city of San Jose as it reins in costs.
The campus would have brought 4,000 living units and stores and employed 25,000 jobs. For San Jose, it would have also brought in $155 million in revenue and helped the city handle its homeless population. The construction delay puts those rewards at risk.
In March, Google took construction updates on the campus off its website and announced cutting 12,000 jobs, representing about 6 percent of its workforce.
The plan was to break ground on the site before the end of 2023, but a Google spokesperson recently told the SF Gate that, “While we’re assessing how to best move forward with Downtown West, we’re still committed to San Jose for the long term and believe in the importance of the development.”
