Tens of thousands of people in San Francisco are missing mail because a postal worker was robbed of their keys. The mail carrier was not injured but many residents could be missing mail as a result of the robbery, officials said.

The robbery affects mail in ZIP code 94110, which includes the Mission and Bernal Heights neighborhoods and is home to just over 70,000 people. Outgoing mail collection boxes in the ZIP code have also been broken into.

The Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the conviction of those who robbed the postal worker, and up to $10,000 for those responsible for mail theft.

A San Francisco Standard report showed that mail robbery cases rose from 94 in 2019 to 253 in 2021.
