If former President Donald Trump decides to make a third bid for the Oval Office in 2024, don’t expect Mike Pence to be his running mate.

Trump addressed the possibility of running alongside his former VP Wednesday in an interview with the Washington Examiner, saying, “I don’t think the people would accept it.” He went on to note, “I haven’t spoken to him in a long time.”

Trump said although the two got along for most of his presidency, their relationship fell apart when Pence refused to overturn the results of the 2020 election. “Mike and I had a great relationship except for the very important factor that took place at the end,” he said. “We had a very good relationship.”

Would taking on Pence as a running mate help or hurt Trump’s chances of being re-elected?
