The man convicted of killing a Sacramento cop is getting the death penalty. A jury returned the sentence Thursday, days after closing arguments ended in the penalty phase of the trial of Adel Ramos. The 51-year-old pleaded guilty last year to ambushing Sacramento police officer Tara O’Sullivan as she was responding to a domestic disturbance call. After shooting O’Sullivan, Ramos was involved in a standoff with police during which he continued to fire at officers. California hasn’t executed a prisoner since 2006, and Governor Gavin Newsom placed a moratorium on the death penalty in 2019.
