Federal funding for California’s high-speed rail project may dry up under the incoming Trump administration.  On the X account for the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, a bullet point summary of the project was laid out.  According to the post, in 2008, the project was projected to cost 33 billion dollars.

The latest estimate is between 88-and-a-half and 128 billion.  The original completion date was 2020, but no passengers have been transported as of this year.

DOGE says that most of the line has not been fully designed yet.  California has received six-point-eight-billion dollars in federal funds for the project and is asking for an additional eight billion.
