The wind-driven Franklin Fire burning in Malibu, California, continues to grow. The nearly two-thousand-acre fire has damaged or destroyed an unknown number of structures; most are presumed to be homes.
In its morning update, the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed zero containment, and an unknown number of structures are either damaged or destroyed. Water-dropping aircraft are in the air, helping battle the flames. Several thousand residents are under mandatory evacuation orders.
The fire broke out late last night near Pepperdine University, where students and staff were ordered to shelter in place.
Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that the state has secured federal funds to fight the Franklin Fire in Malibu. Newsom says a Fire Management Assistance Grant from FEMA will help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the fire that broke out late Monday night.
