President Biden is reportedly considering preemptive pardons for those who may be targeted by President-elect Trump. Reports say the president has had discussions with senior officials including some in the White House counsel’s office.
Some of the names being possibly considered include former White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci, former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney and Senator-elect Adam Schiff. Preemptive presidential pardons are rare. One of the most notable instances came in 1974 when President Ford pardoned President Nixon one month after he resigned from office.
