A judge is dismissing a lawsuit filed by the city of Los Angeles after the photos of thousands of LAPD officers were released to the public. Freelance journalist Ben Camacho first obtained the photos in 2022, through a public records request filed a year earlier.
The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition later published the photos in a searchable online database, prompting a lawsuit from the L.A. City Attorney’s Office, which was ultimately unsuccessful. It demanded the photos be removed from public view and the original digital files be returned to the LAPD. Dozens of undercover officers said their safety was jeopardized by the photos being published.
