The two kindergarten students who were shot at a religious school in rural Butte County remain in critical condition. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea says the five and six-year-old boys have a long road to recovery and will likely need multiple surgeries. One of the boys was shot once in the abdomen and has internal injuries.
The other was shot twice and also has internal injuries. The shooter, who took his own life at the Feather River Adventist School, has been identified as a 56-year-old homeless man who spent time between the Sacramento and Chico areas.
Authorities say he has a long criminal history and mental health issues. Investigators believe he used a ghost gun in the attack.
