A preliminary seven-point-oh earthquake struck off the Northern California coast.  The U.S. Geological Survey says it was centered about 60 miles off the coast of Ferndale, which is south of Eureka.

It hit at about 10:45 Thursday morning.  Farther south and east of there, and at about the same time, a magnitude five-point-eight quake struck not far from the town of Cobb, California. There has been aftershocks in the two-to-three magnitude range.

A tsunami warning is in effect for the coastal areas of Northern California and Southern Oregon.  There are no initial reports of damage or injuries.
