Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is promising not to bus homeless people out of town for the 2028 Summer Olympics. But that’s exactly what officials in Paris did for the Games that concluded this past weekend, and in 1984, when Los Angeles last hosted the Olympics, police on horses herded homeless people into less visible parts of the city.
It is unclear what Bass’ strategy will be since there are tens of thousands of homeless people in Los Angeles. She says the plan is evolving, and the question remains whether she will preside over that plan. In June, Bass announced her re-election campaign for 2026.
