California To Make Physical Driver’s Licenses Optional

By

/

Soon, Californians will no longer be required to carry a physical copy of their driver’s licenses when they’re in their vehicles.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is kicking off its mDL pilot program, which allows residents to carry virtual copies of their IDs and driver’s licenses in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The virtual copies can be used at TSA checkpoints, businesses that require ID, and other places, according to the MVD.

That’s not to say California is the first state to embrace the technology. Arizona, Maryland, Colorado, Georgia and Ohio already accept virtual copies of ID.
