California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Thursday that he will increase law enforcement deployment to Oakland to tackle ongoing criminal activity. CHP will increase its shifts operating in Oakland from 42 to 162 next week.

Newsom underscores the need for more aggressive investigations, accountability, and prosecution of cases, expressing disappointment in the lack of engagement with the DA Pamela Price’s office.

To address this, he says some complex cases will be moved to the State of California for prosecution. According to Newsom, the increased operations in Oakland, set to begin Monday, will target organized crime, sideshows, carjackings, and other crimes.
