Sacramento residents may have to shell out more money to help close the city’s budget deficit.  Drivers heading to downtown, or midtown Sacramento will soon be charged at 300 on-street central city parking meters on Sundays and holidays.

The Sacramento City Council decided Tuesday it will also start charging for electric vehicles in its garages.  The city is increasing fees for sports field rentals, swim programs, covered picnic park areas and room rentals at community centers.  Council members hope the fees will fill the 66-million-dollar shortfall.

The new one-point-six-billion-dollar budget for the upcoming fiscal year goes into effect July 1st.
