Scott Peterson returns to a Northern California courtroom this week in an attempt to clear his name.  On Wednesday, Peterson’s legal team and members of the L.A. Innocence Project will ask a judge in San Mateo to allow evidence gathered during the original trial to undergo DNA testing.

They will also ask that evidence that was never admitted be introduced and tested, including a bloody mattress found inside a burned-out van found near the Peterson’s home in Modesto and a tarp, plastic bag, duct tape, and twine found near where Peterson’s wife, Laci’s remains were discovered near the San Francisco Bay.

20 years ago, Peterson was convicted of murdering his wife and their unborn child. He was sentenced to death, but in 2020, that was changed to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
