The Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act has qualified for the November ballot in California, and politicians are coming out against it.

According to the proposition’s promoters, the act empowers voters with the right to approve or reject all new state and local taxes, increases accountability and transparency so politicians spend tax dollars more efficiently, and stops politicians from disguising taxes as fees to drive up the cost of government services.

The measure was proposed by California business leaders and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
