California lawmakers are looking for answers on how billions of state dollars have been spent to fight the homelessness crisis.  San Francisco Assemblymember Phil Ting pressed state officials for data regarding how specific programs have worked to get homeless people into housing.

Ting says they attended the hearing “without being able to articulate a single piece of data.”  The hearing came after an April state audit found that California has failed to track the outcomes of its spending on homelessness programs.  Ting adds his city – San Francisco – heavily relies on that funding to get people off the streets and into shelters.

State officials say the information will be released in the coming weeks.
