eBay has been ordered to pay a $3 million fine after employees harassed a Massachusetts couple by mailing them live spiders and cockroaches.

According to court documents, company executives were angry at victims David and Ina Steiner for their coverage of eBay in their online newsletter EcommerceBytes.

Employees allegedly sent them packages containing live spiders and cockroaches, as well as other disturbing items like a bloody pig mask and a book on ‘Surviving Loss of a Spouse’, in an attempt to silence their reporting.

eBay CEO Jamie Iannone said in a statement that “the company’s conduct in 2019 was wrong and reprehensible.”
