CA Bill Aims to Ban Football For Young Kids

There’s a new push to ban tackle football. A bill making its way through the state legislature aims to keep children under the age of 12 from participating. 

The bill, authored by Democratic Assembly member Kevin McCarty, is still a long way from passing. The bill must clear the state Assembly by the end of January to have a chance of becoming law this year.

Medical experts call it a high-risk sport for kids whose brains are in their most important stages of development. Some coaches argue other sports can cause injuries and don’t agree with those who think flag football is a safer option.

Other previous attempts in California to ban tackle football for kids, as well as in New York and Illinois, have all failed to pass
