A new California law from San Diego Assemblymember David Alvarez has been signed by the Governor allowing students from Mexico to receive in-state tuition at community colleges.

Under Assembly Bill 91 signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, students living within 45 miles of the border in Mexico will be eligible for in-state tuition at seven community colleges in San Diego County and one in Imperial County.

The Sacramento Bee says the seven locations in San Diego are Grossmont, Mira Costa, Palomar, Cuyamaca, Southwestern, and San Diego City, Mesa and Miramar Colleges.

Each campus can accept up to 150 students from Mexico each year at in-state tuition prices, with this first program running through 2028.
