California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed several bills into law that purport to fight the growing homelessness problem in the state.
A total of eight bills are now law. Most either streamline or provide exemptions for temporary or transitional housing.
One law allows Los Angeles County to impose a transaction and use tax of at least two percent with all of the revenue going to address homelessness.
Meantime, Newsom announced that nearly $180 million in grants will be distributed to seven counties and used to build 710 small homes to give free shelter to homeless individuals and families.
