East Bay Shop Clerk Recovering After Being Set on Fire

A store clerk continues to recover after he was set on fire trying to stop a man from stealing at a convenience store for the third time in the same day.  

The incident happened on September 22nd. Surveillance video shows the moment the suspect poured lighter fluid on the worker and then set him on fire at the Appian Food and Liquor in El Sobrante.

During the fight, Suraj’s head catches fire, and he runs off camera while others confront the attacker.

The clerk suffered second and third degree burns on his face, neck and shoulder.  

Contra Costa County Sheriffs department said they have arrested 38-year-old Kendall Burton and he is facing charges including assault with a deadly weapon, battery, arson and robbery.  

He is currently being held without bail.
