California Could Put the Brakes on Driverless Trucks

As autonomous vehicles become more prevalent in some cities, California may put the brakes on driverless trucks. The autonomous vehicle industry has 18-wheelers ready to hit California’s highways.

But a bill making its way to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk would require a human driver in the cab of a big rig until at least 2031. Meantime, another bill that would expand the fleets of driverless taxis is headed for a floor vote in the State Senate.

Lawmakers who oppose that bill will cite the numerous malfunctions and accidents involving Robotaxis in San Francisco.
