Valley Water has announced a new initiative called “Clean Camps, Clean Creeks” to tackle the issue of homeless waste accumulation in waterways.

As part of the program, Valley Water staff will assist with cleanup efforts and offer gift cards as incentives for compliance.

According to Valley Water officials, the program’s annual cost exceeds $500,000, with half of the expenses subsidized by the federal government.

Valley Water was also recently awarded a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency which will provide approximately $2.2 million to perform cleanups and provide portable toilets on heavily impacted creeks.
