Data from the San Francisco Controller’s Office on how much city government employees are paid may surprise you. The top earner made six-hundred-forty-thousand dollars last year, almost double what mayor London Breed made. Mayor London Breed is the highest paid mayor in California.

That top spot went to Alison Romano, Chief Executive and Investment Officer of Retirement Services, who took home $644,000. Retirement Services Managing Director, Kurt Braitberg, came in at number two with a total take-home of about $598,000.

In fact, over 100 city employees make more than the mayor.

Total pay is the sum of regular pay and overtime. It doesn’t include things like health and retirement benefits, which averaged thirty-two thousand a year for each employee last year.
