Former Golden State Warriors head coach Don Nelson is trying to lend a helping hand to victims of the devastating wildfires on Maui.

Nelson has spent the last few days leasing out his short-term rental houses on Maui for free to dozens of people impacted by the fires.

After a Hall of Fame basketball coaching career, Nelson settled in West Maui over a decade ago and started what is now a sizable rental company.

He tells the San Francisco Chronicle he’s devastated by the destruction in Lahaina and elsewhere on Maui and is working to try and help as many people who need housing as possible.
