Oakland Hopes to Attract Visitors with Airport Expansion Plan

Travelers are getting a chance to weigh in on a makeover for Oakland International Airport.

The proposal calls for building another terminal, adding 16 gates, more parking, and improving Terminals 1 and 2.

In expanding the airport, they also hope to attract more passengers from the East Bay, many who may currently use San Francisco International Airport.

Officials say they haven’t modernized the airport since it was built and this will keep up with demand, given that the number of passengers is expected to more than double to 24-million by 2038.

Two public meetings will be held next month and it could still be several years before anything is built.
