Legislation has been introduced by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors that aims to limit how security guards can use firearms.

This is following the killing of Banko Brown last month, which some are questioning as an act of self-defense or not, Supervisors urge the release of all police reports, witness accounts, and video footage to press the issue further.

At a San Francisco Walgreens on April 27th, security guard Michael Earl-Wayne Anthony confronted Chynna “Banko” Brown for shoplifting. Brown became violent and physically threatened the security guard’s life which forced Anthony to shoot him once with his pistol.

District Attorney Jenkins later announced after a review of the footage that Anthony acted in self-defense and would not be charged.

The Board also passed a non-binding resolution urging the SFPD and the DA’s office to release reports, accounts, and footage associated with the case, along with possible changes to the police code.
