The recently elected Mayor of San Jose had some sharp words for San Francisco in a new interview with the Mercury News.
“I will say emphatically that San Jose will not become San Francisco. I think everyone deserves to live in a safe and clean environment,” said Matt Mahan.
In the same article, crime statistics revealed property crime rates stayed consistent in San Jose, while violent crimes began to creep upwards.
Although Mahan’s words may seem pretty blunt, the numbers don’t lie. San Francisco saw slightly more violent crimes compared to San Jose last year (5,298 to 5,046). But San Francisco scored almost double the number of property crimes compared to San Jose (48,653 vs. 25,363), which is even more pronounced when you factor in San Jose having about 160,000 more residents.
