San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced a new plan to halve the number of people living on city streets within five years but it will, of course, cost more.

The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) prepared “Home by the Bay, An Equity-Driven Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness in San Francisco.”

The plan states that the department will need an additional $607 million over the next five years and $217 million in additional annual funding. The department’s budget for the current fiscal year is $672 million.

Currently, San Francisco is looking at a shortfall of $779.8 million, $51.5 million higher than was previously projected.

Despite spending $1.1 Billion in the fiscal year 2021–22, homelessness and the related problems of drug abuse, crime, and public health issues continue to run rampant in the city.
